Common Questions

How do I apply to obtain my New Hampshire Pistol and Revolver License (PRL)?

Applications may be obtained at your local police station and submitted once completed. It will take approximately 14 days to process the application. Once your application has been processed and your permit has been issued, you can pick up your permit. You will need picture identification and proof of residency when you pick it up, no one else can obtain your permit for you. The permit is valid for 5 years after it has been issued. Renewal is done during the permit holder’s birth month. A valid permit authorizes you to carry a firearm concealed while traveling within the state of New Hampshire; with specific limitations.

Am I required to take a course to receive my Pistol and Revolver License (PRL)?

No, New Hampshire does not require you to take a course to get your Pistol and Revolver License. This is a non-required course that we offer to those that want to ensure they know all the laws surrounding concealed carry in New Hampshire. We will cover New Hampshire's concealed carry laws and use of lethal force laws and answer any questions students may have before getting their licenses. It is incredibly important to know this information so you can conceal carry legally and responsibly. Additionally, this class meets the legal requirements to allow students to apply for Arizona Concealed Weapons Permits and Virginia Concealed Handgun Permits.

Why would a New Hampshirite want to have an Arizona Non-Resident Concealed Weapons Permit?

The Arizona Non-Resident Concealed Weapons Permit by itself would allow you to carry a firearm in 30 states. With that said to carry in New Hampshire, you must have a New Hampshire Pistol and Revolver License. For that reason, it is very common for New Hampshire Residents to obtain both an Arizona Permit and New Hampshire Pistol and Revolver License. Together, a New Hampshire Pistol and Revolver License and Arizona  Permit allow you to carry your firearm in 36 states across the US. If you ever move away from New Hampshire we recommend you maintain an Arizona permit and obtain a permit from your new home state. If you are not a New Hampshire resident you may still take this course solely to meet the legal requirements to receive either an Arizona or Virginia concealed carry permit.
