Tennessee law requires Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit applicants, unless exempt, to complete a Department of Safety-approved handgun safety course. The training includes both classroom and firing-range instruction. The Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit allows qualified permit holders to carry a handgun either openly or concealed, subject to applicable Tennessee law.
Our goal is not simply to help you complete the training requirement. We want every student to leave with a practical understanding of Tennessee firearm and self-defense laws, safe handgun handling, and the responsibilities that come with carrying a firearm.
Students who complete the course will receive the required proof of training and instructions for completing the remaining Tennessee Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit application process. The permit application fee is paid directly to the State of Tennessee and is separate from the class fee.

Why Tennessee's Permit?
Tennessee allows permitless carry for those who meet the legal requirements, but that right generally stops at the state line. A Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit can help you legally carry in 37 reciprocating states that honor Tennessee permits. This class helps satisfy the training requirement to apply for your Enhanced Tennessee permit, and after completing it, you can submit your application through the State of Tennessee. Unless an applicant qualifies for an exemption, Tennessee requires successful completion of a Department of Safety-approved handgun safety course within one year of the permit application. The course includes classroom and firing-range instruction.
The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security currently lists the Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit application fee as $100 for the standard eight-year permit. A reduced fee may apply to qualifying active-duty or honorably discharged military applicants. Tennessee is a “shall issue” state, meaning qualified applicants who complete the requirements and pass the background check will be issued a permit.
