What should you expect?

Practical Training

We also emphasize real-world, everyday situations, including safe storage, interacting responsibly around children, and practical concealed carry considerations.

Everyday Safety

Safety, both in the classroom and beyond, is a top priority for our instructors. To maintain a secure learning environment, no live ammunition is allowed in the classroom. Firearms must be unloaded and stored safely. We are committed to promoting responsible firearm ownership that is both safe and enjoyable.

Why Kentucky's Permit?

Kentucky is what many call a “constitutional carry” state, meaning you are not required to have a concealed carry permit to carry a concealed handgun within the state. You may carry without a permit as long as you are 21 or older and legally allowed to possess a firearm. However, this permitless carry does not extend beyond Kentucky’s borders. If you plan to carry in other states, you will need a concealed carry permit that is recognized by those states. Kentucky offers a Concealed Deadly Weapon (CCDW) license, which is honored by many other states. This class satisfies the training requirement needed to apply for that license. After completing the course, you will receive your certificate and can submit your application through your local sheriff’s office. Kentucky is a “shall issue” state, meaning that as long as you meet the legal requirements and complete the training, your license will be issued.

Common Questions

Do I have to be a Kentucky resident to get a Concealed Deadly Weapon Permit?

No, you do not have to be a Kentucky resident to apply for a Kentucky Concealed Deadly Weapon (CCDW) license. Kentucky issues permits to both residents and non-residents, as long as you meet all eligibility requirements and complete the required training.

Where is concealed carry NOT allowed in Kentucky?

Even with a CCDW license (or under constitutional carry), there are certain places where concealed carry is restricted or prohibited under Kentucky law: Police stations and sheriff’s offices, Detention facilities, jails, and prisons, Courthouses and courtrooms, Meetings of the General Assembly or legislative committees, Schools (K–12), including school grounds and events (with limited exceptions), Portions of establishments primarily devoted to alcohol consumption, Airports (beyond TSA security checkpoints), Any private property where firearms are prohibited by posted signage, Federal buildings and properties (such as post offices). Always pay attention to posted signs and understand that laws can vary slightly depending on the situation. When in doubt, it’s best to verify before carrying.class

Why get a permit if Kentucky has constitutional carry?

Even though Kentucky allows you to carry without a permit, getting a CCDW license is still valuable, especially if you plan to travel. A Kentucky permit is recognized by many other states, while permitless carry typically does not extend beyond state lines. It also shows you’ve completed formal training and understand the law, which can give you added confidence and peace of mind when carrying.
