All of our South Carolina Concealed Weapons Permit courses provide the training needed to apply for a South Carolina CWP. South Carolina Code § 23-31-210 requires the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, also known as SLED, to establish guidelines for course and qualification requirements for the CWP program. Each class is designed to help students leave with a strong understanding of South Carolina firearm regulations, self-defense laws, use-of-force considerations, and the responsibilities that come with carrying a handgun.

Our instruction is designed to build confidence and practical preparedness. We will discuss self-defense scenarios and go through them point by point, outlining what to do and what not to do. Students will leave with the information needed to continue the CWP application process through SLED, including guidance on required documentation, fingerprints, and application steps. South Carolina Code § 23-31-215 governs the issuance of concealed weapons permits and requires SLED to issue or deny a permit within 90 days of receiving the application.

What should you expect?

Practical Training

In your class, you will learn proper firearm handling skills, weapon safety, and firearms laws. As part of all of our classes, we focus on day-to-day situations such as firearms storage, safety around children, and concealed carry.

Knowledgeable Instructors

All of our instructors are certified by the USCCA/NRA. Each instructor is well versed in self-defense, both inside and outside the home. The knowledge they impart will give you the foundation to feel comfortable carrying your firearm to the places you go.

Everyday Safety

Safety both in the class and out is a top priority for all of our instructors. To ensure your safety, no live ammunition is permitted in the classroom. We are dedicated to making firearms ownership safe and enjoyable.

Why South Carolina's Permit?

South Carolina now allows eligible individuals who are not otherwise prohibited from possessing a firearm to carry openly or concealed without training and without a concealed weapons permit issued by SLED. However, the South Carolina CWP remains valuable for residents who want formal training, proof of competency, reciprocity with recognizing states, and a stronger understanding of South Carolina carry laws. This class provides the training needed to apply for your South Carolina Concealed Weapons Permit under South Carolina Code §§ 23-31-210 and 23-31-215. After class, students can continue the application process through SLED by submitting the required application materials, fingerprints, fees, and supporting documents. South Carolina is a “shall issue” state, meaning SLED must issue the permit if the applicant meets the statutory requirements and the background review is favorable.

Common Questions

Does this class meet the requirements for the South Carolina CWP?

Yes. This class is designed to satisfy the training requirement needed to apply for a South Carolina Concealed Weapons Permit. South Carolina Code § 23-31-210 requires SLED to establish guidelines for CWP course and qualification requirements, and CWP instructors must meet SLED requirements to teach in the program.

Why do I need a CWP if South Carolina has constitutional carry?

South Carolina allows eligible individuals to carry openly or concealed without a permit, but a CWP still has benefits. The South Carolina CWP program remains available for those who want to carry pursuant to a permit, receive formal training, and take advantage of reciprocity in states that recognize South Carolina’s permit.

What do I need to do after completing the class?

After class, students can continue the South Carolina CWP application process through SLED. Applicants should be prepared to submit the required application materials, fingerprints, fees, and supporting documents. South Carolina Code § 23-31-215 requires SLED to issue or deny the permit within 90 days of receiving the application.
