How do I apply to obtain my Indiana License to Carry a Handgun (LTCH)?

Indiana uses an online system through the Indiana State Police Handgun Licensing Portal to apply for a new License to Carry a Handgun. To apply, you will complete the online handgun license application, schedule an electronic fingerprint appointment, and then complete local law enforcement processing with your sheriff or municipal police agency within 90 days. Once those steps are complete, your application will be electronically submitted to the Indiana State Police for final review, and if approved, your LTCH will be mailed to you.

Does Indiana issue a lifetime handgun license?

Yes. Indiana allows eligible applicants to apply for a lifetime or five-year firearms permit, and the Indiana State Police conducts the required checks to determine whether the applicant qualifies.  

Am I required to take a course to receive my Indiana License to Carry a Handgun (LTCH)?

No, Indiana does not require you to take a course to get your License to Carry a Handgun. This is a non-required course that we offer to those who want to ensure they know all the laws around concealed carry in Indiana. We will cover Indiana's concealed carry laws and use of lethal force laws, and answer any questions students may have before getting their licenses. It is incredibly important to know this information so you can conceal carry legally and responsibly.
