All of our Ohio Concealed Handgun License classes are designed to satisfy the training requirement needed to apply for an Ohio Concealed Handgun License. Classes are taught by experienced and knowledgeable instructors. In class, we strive to ensure that each student leaves feeling comfortable with their knowledge of Ohio concealed carry laws, Ohio self-defense laws, safe firearm handling, and responsible everyday carry.

Our goal is not just to help you check off the class needed to apply for your license; we want you to leave with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to carry responsibly. We will discuss self-defense scenarios and go point by point through what to do and what not to do. Students will leave class with the required certificate of completion. After class, students can apply through the sheriff of their county of residence or an adjacent county sheriff’s office. Ohio law requires resident applicants to submit the completed application and required materials to the sheriff of the county where they live or any adjacent county.

What should you expect?

Practical Training

In your class, you will learn proper firearm handling skills, weapon safety, and firearms laws. As part of all of our classes, we focus on day-to-day situations such as firearms storage, safety around children, and concealed carry.

All of our instructors are certified by the USCCA/NRA. Each instructor is well versed in self-defense, both inside and outside the home. The knowledge they impart will give you the foundation to feel comfortable carrying your firearm to the places you go.

Everyday Safety

Safety both in the class and out is a top priority for all of our instructors. To ensure your safety, no live ammunition is permitted in the classroom. We are dedicated to making firearms ownership safe and enjoyable.

Why Ohio’s Concealed Handgun License?

Ohio allows permitless carry for a “qualifying adult.” Under Ohio law, a qualifying adult is generally someone who is at least 21 years old, is not legally prohibited from possessing or receiving a firearm, and satisfies the applicable statutory criteria. A qualifying adult is not required to obtain a concealed handgun license to carry a concealed handgun in Ohio, but that person is still subject to the same restrictions that apply to Ohio concealed handgun license holders.

Even though Ohio has permitless carry, an Ohio Concealed Handgun License can still be valuable. A license may help Ohio residents who want formal training, proof of competency, and the ability to carry in states that recognize Ohio’s license. The Ohio Attorney General’s concealed carry site maintains materials explaining Ohio’s concealed handgun licensing law, reciprocity agreements, publications, forms, and related resources.

Common Questions

Do I need an Ohio Concealed Handgun License to carry concealed in Ohio?

No. Ohio allows a qualifying adult to carry a concealed handgun in Ohio without obtaining a concealed handgun license. A qualifying adult must be at least 21 years old, must not be legally prohibited from possessing or receiving a firearm, and must satisfy the applicable statutory criteria. However, a license can still be valuable for formal training and for carrying in states that recognize Ohio’s license.

What do I need to do after completing the class?

After class, students can apply through the sheriff of their county of residence or any adjacent county sheriff’s office. Applicants should be prepared to submit the completed application, certificate of competency, required fee, and other required materials. Once the sheriff receives a completed application, supporting documentation, and the required fee if not waived, Ohio law requires the sheriff to issue the license within 45 days if the applicant meets the statutory qualifications.

How long is the Ohio Concealed Handgun License class?

The Ohio Concealed Handgun License class is 8 hours long. Ohio law requires at least 8 hours of training in the safe handling and use of a firearm, including at least 2 hours of in-person range time and live-fire training
