The Utah Provisional Concealed Firearm Permit is a new permit issued to 18-20 year olds. Previously, concealed carry permits in Utah were only issued to those 21 years of age and older. Now, if you are 18, you can apply for the provisional permit as long as you meet all other requirements for the Utah Concealed Carry Permit. With ASDI, we will walk you through the process you need to follow to apply for your permit the day you take the class for only $45.00. You need to be 17 years of age on the day of the class, but you can not submit until you turn 18.

What should you expect?

Practical Training

In this course, you’ll develop safe firearm handling skills, learn essential safety practices, and understand key firearm laws. Each class also emphasizes real-life scenarios, including secure storage, protecting children, and responsible concealed carry.

Knowledgeable Instructors

All of our instructors hold NRA or USCCA certifications, as well as being certified by the state of Utah, and have extensive experience in self-defense, both at home and in public. Their training provides you with the confidence and skills needed to responsibly carry your firearm wherever life takes you.

Everyday Safety

Our instructors prioritize safety, both during class and beyond. To maintain a secure environment, no live ammunition is allowed in the classroom. We are committed to ensuring firearm ownership is both safe and enjoyable.

What states honor the Utah Provisional Permit?

The Utah Provisional Permit is a unique permit that allows 18-year-olds to carry a concealed firearm. Being such a unique permit, not all states honor it. This map represents those states that honor the provisional permit. The full permit is good in almost double the states, but the good news is you can get the provisional permit and apply to upgrade to the full permit once you turn 21. No additional training is required; simply apply for the full permit after your 21st birthday. Once the full permit arrives, you can carry in more than 35 states.

Frequently Asked Questions

Isn't Utah Constitutional carry now, why should I still get a permit?

Although Utah is a Constitutional Carry state, obtaining your Utah CCW Permit still offers important advantages—such as the ability to legally carry on or around school property. Utah’s permit is also among the most widely recognized in the country, making it invaluable for those who travel. This article explains why we strongly encourage Utah residents to obtain their Utah Concealed Carry permit.

Can I take the Utah Concealed Carry permit before turning 18?

Yes, you are welcome to take the class before turning 18, as long as you will be 18 within the next year. The training certificate you receive from the class is valid for one year, which means you can complete the course now and then simply wait until after your 18th birthday to submit your application. Once you turn 18, you can apply for your Utah Concealed Firearm Permit using that same certificate—no need to retake the class. This allows you to complete the training ahead of time and have everything ready to go as soon as you reach the required age.

Can I get a Utah Provisional Permit without being a Utah resident?

Yes, you can, but the process depends on your home state. If your state recognizes the Utah Provisional Concealed Firearm Permit, you’ll first need to obtain a permit from your state before applying in Utah. If your state does not recognize the Utah Provisional permit, then you can simply take a class, just like residents of Utah. For the most up-to-date information, you can check with Utah BCI, or you can use our map—if your home state is shown in black, you won’t need a permit from your state before getting one from Utah.
