All our Alabama concealed carry classes are designed to help students better understand Alabama firearm laws, self-defense laws, safe handgun handling, and responsible everyday carry. Alabama does not require training to apply for a pistol permit, but taking a class is a smart option for students who want to carry with more confidence and a stronger understanding of the law. Classes are taught by experienced and knowledgeable USCCA/NRA instructors. In the class, we strive to ensure that each student leaves feeling comfortable with their knowledge of Alabama concealed carry laws, Alabama self-defense laws, safe handgun handling, and responsible carry practices. Our goal is not just to talk through the permit process; we want students to leave with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to carry responsibly. We will discuss self-defense scenarios and go point by point through what to do and what not to do.

Why Alabama's Permit?
Alabama allows eligible individuals to carry concealed without a permit, but an Alabama Pistol Permit remains valuable for residents who want formal training, proof of responsibility, and reciprocity benefits when traveling. Alabama permits are issued by county sheriffs, are available to qualified county residents, and are generally valid for up to five years. Alabama is also a “shall issue” state for qualified applicants who meet the legal requirements and are not disqualified. This class helps students better understand Alabama firearms law, self-defense law, safe handgun handling, and the practical responsibilities of carrying a firearm. Alabama Code § 13A-3-23 addresses the use of force in defense of a person, including circumstances involving physical force, deadly physical force, and no duty to retreat when a person is justified and is in a place where they have the right to be.

However, an Alabama Pistol Permit may still be valuable for residents who want reciprocity benefits when traveling and formal proof of permit status.
Does Alabama require a class to apply for a pistol permit?
No. Alabama does not require a training class to apply for a pistol permit. This class is designed for students who want to better understand Alabama firearms law, self-defense law, safe handling, and responsible carry practices before or after applying for a permit.
Where do I apply for an Alabama Pistol Permit?
Alabama residents apply through the sheriff’s office in their county of residence. Permit fees, application steps, and processing details may vary by county, so students should check with their local sheriff’s office for current instructions.
